An Interview with Claire
How did you get to be a hypnotherapist?
I had been working in community pharmacy as a pharmacist for 25 years, with a particular interest in substance abuse and mental health.
On the recommendation of a friend, I read the popular self help book “The Chimp Paradox” & was fascinated with its explanation of our primitive brain as the source of much of our inappropriate responses. The same week, I met Inspired to Change therapist, Ali Hollands at a presentation and after some conversation about that book and my background, she suggested I might enjoy training to become a hypnotherapist. The modern, science-backed course really appealed, as did the prospect of being able to better support my patients.
After I had completed the course, I enjoyed working as a hypnotherapist so much I left my full time job as a pharmacist to run my own clinic from home as part of Inspired to Change!
What type of clients do you see?
My clients are very varied! I see both men and women as well as children, teenagers and young people. Hypnotherapy is particularly effective in relieving stress, so many of my patients initially come to me with stress related issues such as insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome or exam fears. I have also worked with clients struggling with OCD, eating disorders, anxiety and depression, phobias and in supporting rehabilitation after a stroke. I work with sports people, too, in swimming and football, to improve their competitive performance, and in supporting clients going through fertility treatment and ultimately onto childbirth – hypnotherapy can be used to give you and your baby a much more relaxed and calm birth.
How are you different from other hypnotherapists?
Like all the Inspired to Change hypnotherapists, I practice solution focused hypnotherapy. It is an immensely positive therapy, looking forward to what the client wants to achieve without revisiting previous trauma or analysing past experience. It’s very interactive and client focused, and adaptable to their precise situation.
What results can I expect?
Good ones! As long as you’re prepared to work with me and make the positive changes required it works so well that my clients often tell me that they wish they’d come to me sooner!
How quickly can I expect results?
Each client and each issue is different and treated as such, but typically my clients will see results in as little as a few weeks – on average I see my clients for about 6 – 10 sessions, with noticeable improvements long before that. Clients that come to me for smoking or to relieve phobias see me for much fewer sessions.
Does it really work?
Yes! Solution focused hypnotherapy is backed by the very latest research in brain function and neuroscience.
How will we work together?
If you haven’t already done so, you will come and see me for an initial consultation, which is totally free, so that I can find out more about you and what exactly you’d like to achieve through seeing me. In that session we’ll talk about how & why your brain might be making you feel that way and how hypnotherapy can improve your life. Over the course of the next few sessions we’ll talk in more detail about how you’d like things to change and together, we work towards implementing those positive changes. My clients tell me they find hypnotherapy very relaxing and enjoyable. I love seeing my clients become happier and healthier and because it’s such a positive approach, we have a lot of fun!
Do you have any qualifications, professional membership and insurance?
As a hypnotherapist I have trained with the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training centre and hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) As a result, I am a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapy, the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council, all of which require me to keep up to date with both training and supervision and to abide by their codes and ethics. I have full public liability insurance.
I am also a fully qualified and practising pharmacist, so I hold a degree in pharmacy and post-graduate qualifications in various areas including medicine review and addiction. I am registered with both my professional bodies, the General Pharmaceutical Society and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
What happens if I’ve never used hypnotherapy before?
It doesn’t matter! The trance state is a very natural thing to relax into, and more than likely something you have already experienced while driving, or being engrossed in a book, or film. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have at our initial consultation, and at any point after that. I can promise you, though, that it will be nothing like the stage hypnosis you may have seen on television – there will be no clucking like chickens!
OK, I know I want to work with you. How do we get started?
It is so simple – just give me a call, drop me a text or email and then we can book your free initial consultation. My number is 07712 220 880.
If I’m still not quite sure, is there a way for me to sample your work at low cost to see if it is the right solution for me?
Sure. By offering the free initial consultation you have plenty of opportunity to confirm that you want to work with me on your issue or goal.
How do I pay?
You will pay at each session by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
OK I’m ready to do this, but I just have a couple more questions. Can I call you?
Absolutely! My number is 07712 220 880. To discuss your situation and what you would like to achieve just get in touch!
