An Interview with Richard
How did you get to be a hypnotherapist?
Due to a unforeseen change in my life (a near fatal accident) that not only challenged me physically, but mentally and emotionally too. This lead me to a major revaluation of my life. My recovery was always going to be a long slow process and I was never quite sure to what level of recovery I would achieve.
So, I focused all my attention on my strengths and passions. A key strength being effective communication and dealing with change. A key skill that has always been at the forefront of all my previous roles. Together, with a passion for helping people (friends, colleagues and family members) achieve their goals, and improving their lives
I decided to use my time wisely recovering and expand my understanding of people and how and why they think and behave in certain ways. I embarked on returning to education, even with mild dyslexia I obtained a degree (BSc) in Psychology, which simply whet my appetite to learn more about change, what works and why.
So when I found hypnotherapy I was amazed at how quickly and effectively it was able to help me. It has completely changed my outlook, helping me to be more positive and successful in everything that I do. I was so inspired by the powerful simplicity of hypnotherapy that I decided to train to become a hypnotherapist myself so that I can help others to make positive and lasting changes in their own lives.
I love working with people and I am always amazed how hypnotherapy can turn someone’s life around for the better even when things appear at their very worst. I offer my clients a professional, caring and enjoyable approach, helping them to see the positives in their lives so that they can be the best they possibly can be.
What type of clients do you see?
My clients come from all walks of life with very varied backgrounds, with a wide range of issues and emotions, sharing a common theme. They have decided they no longer want to feel, behave or react in the way they currently do. They often feel that they have lost or don’t have control of their emotions or habits, and that makes them feel out of control in some area of their life, feeling stuck. They want to make positive lasting changes in their day to day lives.
How are you different from other hypnotherapists?
Every hypnotherapist is different in their knowledge and life experience. So, it is important you find one that you trust, believe is committed to you, has trained well and continues to practice ethically and professionally in a non-judgemental way.
More specifically, I work with a very contemporary (modern) approach to therapy and hypnotherapy, which is Solution Focused hypnotherapy. This is very different to Classical Dated Hypnotherapy, because the primary focus is on working with how clients want to be when their situation has changed, looking to the future without revisiting a past trauma or analysing previous experiences. Essentially, NOT dwelling on the past.
Before we work together you can book a free appointment, which will help you figure out if I’m the one who is going to help you with your current issue.
What results can I expect?
You can expect to feel, think and behave differently
I’ve helped almost all my clients achieve complete success. Together we track your progress throughout their sessions, so they can easily see the positive results. Most people find they experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, but some may take a little longer. Committed clients who are willing to move their lives forward get great results, no longer stuck, allowing them to move forward in their lives in a positive, empowered and rewarding way.
Of the remaining few I’ve been able to support them to at least a partial resolution or in a very few cases we have agreed that hypnotherapy is not the right therapy and I have referred them onto a practitioner in a different field.
How quickly can I expect results?
This depends on the issue your looking to deal with and how you respond to therapy. Every treatment plan is unique because you are unique and what you would like to achieve is unique to you. Most issues can be resolved within 6-12 sessions and some take much less, for example some phobia’s take just 3 sessions and Stop Smoking Therapy only requires a one off 2-hour session.
Does it really work?
Yes! Through personal first-hand experience and that of my clients to prove it, but the benefits of hypnotherapy are well-documented. It has a proven track record of helping many psychological and physical issues. The NHS recommends hypnotherapy, as do many doctors, nurses, counsellors and many other complementary therapists and professionals. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is also at the sharp end of hypnotherapy up to date and current, supported by the very latest research in brain function and neuroscience.
How will we work together and what does it entail?
It’s simple – we discuss during your FREE initial consultation what it is you would like to achieve from our work together, and how I can help you achieve it. We then discuss how and why your brain might be making you feel the way you do and how hypnotherapy can improve your life. Sessions then commence and processing will continue following your sessions, which means you may experience interesting dreams, answers to your issues or desires popping into your mind and a gradual improvement of the issue itself. Some methods of treatment are more dynamic than others, so you may also experience significant breakthroughs during a particular session. However, hypnotherapy itself is an incredibly relaxing process that will often leave you feeling revitalised and rested as part of the session benefits.
Do you have any qualifications, professional membership and insurance?
I obtained a degree (BSc) in psychology 2014, and then went on to gain my original diploma in clinical hypnotherapy with counselling skills in 2015. I am currently refreshing my training focusing on a Solution Focused way of working which is backed up by a huge body of research and knowledge of neuroscience. All diplomas are nationally recognised and independently assessed
I continue my professional development with regular supervision and short courses in the technical skills hypnotherapy and psychotherapy together with development for the practice.
My membership to both The General Hypnotherapy Register and National Council of Hypnotherapy requires me to keep up to date with both training and supervision and to abide by their codes and ethics.
I have full public liability insurance and a valid enhanced DBS check.
What happens if I’ve never used hypnotherapy before?
Hypnotherapy is a very relaxing and enlightening experience! I will help you to understand why you are having trouble and together we will set realistic goals to help you towards a permanent solution. I offer a FREE initial consultation so you can meet me and understand more about the process.
OK, I know I want to work with you. How do we get started?
It is so simple – just give me a call, drop me a text or email me. I will want to speak to you on the phone first, and then we can book your FREE initial consultation. My number is 07828 793 189.
If I’m still not quite sure, is there a way for me to sample your work at low cost to see if it is the right solution for me?
Sure. By offering the free initial consultation you have plenty of opportunity to confirm that you want to work with me on your issue or goal.
In addition, I offer simple, shorter relaxation sessions at reduced rates too, which will give you an experience of hypnosis and the gentle healing power of hypnotherapy.
Although no intervention work is done in these sessions the benefits of relaxation are huge (think about it – relaxation is the opposite of stress and how many times do you hear that stress is bad for you?!)
How do I pay?
You will pay at each session by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
OK I’m ready to do this, but I just have a couple more questions. Can I call you?
Absolutely! My number is 07828 793 189 (feel free to text). To discuss your situation and what you would like to achieve just get in touch!
What times are you available?
I am in the Canterbury clinic Thursday and Friday 9am-7pm, Monday and Tuesday 4pm-7pm. Most of my appointments are during weekdays in office hours and, because you only need to see me a few times (and sometimes just once), this will be easy to arrange.
I do offer some evening and weekend appointments, but these have limited availability.
Booking a weekday daytime appointment is the quickest way to see me.
