On Teachers, Burnout and Resilience – Can Hypnotherapy Help Teachers?

Can we all just agree that being a teacher is tough these days.  Not only do you have to come up with inclusive, creative, multi-level teaching plans, there’s marking, assessing every half term, form filling like never before, extra duties, covering sick days and holiday AND on top of that you are to be an inspirer of young minds and a moral leader. And over the last 18 months covid-19 and homeschooling has been thrown into the mix too!

That’s a big ask for anyone, so is it any wonder our teachers have started voting with their feet? The statistics are damning: 50,000 teachers left the profession in 2015 alone.  47% of retirement due to ill health were due to psychiatric disorders, and 60% said the job made their illnesses worse.

Is it really such a great idea to have the people who are helping the next generation build the foundations of their futures to be so stressed, tired, overwhelmed, sick and burnout they leave?

Whilst it has been very encouraging to see posts on social media of mindfulness, meditation, yoga for school kids – you might have even seen it in your school.  They are encouraged to think about a growth mind-set, taught how to develop and grow.

That does not seem to be the case for teachers.  Is it not our teachers who set the direction, lead the way, create the drive, ensure everyone keeps up?  They are a huge influence on our children’s lives and futures.  That influence needs to be positive.  To be positive they need to be positive, engaged, motivated and resilient.

How hypnotherapy helps teachers:

Having had several teaching clients, what has worked in every case is our process, Ascend: the five stage path to being in control of your life© – with particular attention to the specific challenges working as a teacher brings.  It has been a privilege to watch as they have reduced their stress levels, taken control of their workload, regained their home life, and found healthy ways of unwinding to increase their long-term resilience.

Once those 4 key areas were mastered, they coped with the demands so much more effectively and have the energy, positivity and motivation to re-engage with the profession they love.
