An Interview with Emma
How did you get to be a hypnotherapist?
I’ve always had a real interest in psychology and human behaviour – at university I studied social geography which focuses on the interplay between humans and the environment, particularly environmental change and how we, as humans adapt to it. Studying and practicing Hypnotherapy gave me an opportunity to do something that has always interested me in a very practical way that can help people. As a hypnotherapist I learnt the science behind our behaviour which is underpinned by countless research studies. I learnt techniques and knowledge that I can pass on to help my clients. I really enjoy being able to explain to client why they are feeling the way they are – seeing those lightbulb moments when they understand and realise they can do something about it is so rewarding.
What type of clients do you see?
I enjoy working with lots of different clients from all sorts of backgrounds with a wide variety of issues. Many people I see are suffering from anxiety or have fears and phobias that are preventing them from enjoying life, fears like public speaking for example. I also enjoying working with children and expectant mothers – did you know that hypnotherapy can be really helpful during birth? If you have something in your life that you would like help with then hypnotherapy could help you live your life to your full potential!
How are you different from other hypnotherapists?
I practice a modern approach called Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This means that I work with my clients to create positive outcomes without the need to dwell in the past. Many people are quite surprised by this approach which allows them to move forward at their own pace in an enjoyable and positive way.
What results can I expect?
People come to see me for many different reasons so the results will be different for everyone. I work together with my clients to help them be where they want to be and I provide them with the knowledge and tools to ensure long term, permanent change. Those who make a real commitment to the therapy have really great results and my clients tell me the process is a fun and enlightening one!
How quickly can I expect results?
This will very much depend on what your issue is and we can discuss this at your free initial consultation. Therapy is tailored to the individual’s needs and I track each client’s progress so we can recognise the changes and successes and help them to continue to move forward. Because I use a solution focused approach I often see remarkable progress in just the first few weeks.
Does it really work?
Yes! My experience of working with clients, and the testimonials they give me, has proven that it absolutely does work but of course we also have fantastic scientific research behind our work that shows us not only that it does work buy how and why it works. There is no magic involved in hypnotherapy – we just take the knowledge of the natural way your brain works and use that to your advantage. Hypnotherapy is a proven therapy that can help with so many different conditions, both physical and emotional. The NHS recommends hypnotherapy, as do many doctors, nurses, counsellors and many other complementary therapists and professionals.
How will we work together?
Everyone is very different so I tailor my approach to each individual person and their issue to come up with a therapy plan that works for them. Therapy is a partnership and together we will identify your goals so that we can work together towards achieving them. I offer a free 1 hour consultation for all new clients, this allows you to get a real understanding of how I work, how hypnotherapy will work for you and it will also give us an idea of how many sessions you may need.
Do you have any qualifications, professional membership and insurance?
I trained with the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training centre receiving a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychology (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD), both nationally recognised and independently assessed diplomas.
My memberships with The National Council of Hypnotherapy and the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy require me to keep up to date with both training and supervision and to abide by their codes and ethics. I have full public liability insurance.
What happens if I’ve never used hypnotherapy before?
My clients tell me that the experience is a calming, relaxing and enjoyable one! I use a simple 5 step process to help you get your life back on track; I will help you to understand why you are feeling the way you are, help you set positive goals for moving forward, identify and undo any behaviour patterns that might be holding you back, create some positive new behaviour patterns and then lock them in for permanent change. I offer a free initial consultation so you can meet me and understand more about this process.
